About the role
As the Head of Platform Engineering, working remotely from South Africa, you will lead the entire platform engineering function and drive the technical strategy for our marketing technology platform, serving UK and international clients. You will work closely with our London executive team to set technical direction, manage engineering teams, and ensure platform excellence.
Day-to-day, you'll be setting technical strategy, leading engineering teams, managing platform architecture decisions, and collaborating with senior leadership on the technology roadmap and business strategy. This role requires exceptional technical leadership and strategic thinking capabilities.
Working pattern and flexibility
This is an executive leadership role available as full-time, fully remote from South Africa. You'll work closely with our London headquarters team and executive leadership through structured communication and regular video calls. Core collaboration hours align with South African mornings (UK afternoons) with flexibility for executive meetings. Time tracking software is required for security and progress monitoring.
Leadership trajectory
This is an executive leadership role with opportunities to advance to CTO or VP Engineering positions. You'll lead global engineering strategy and manage multiple engineering teams. Exceptional performers will have opportunities for UK visa sponsorship and potential relocation to our London office.
What you will be doing
Lead platform engineering strategy and technical roadmap for marketing technology platform.
Manage and develop engineering teams across multiple technical disciplines and regions.
Drive technical architecture decisions and platform innovation initiatives.
Collaborate with executive leadership on technology strategy and business development.
Ensure platform scalability, reliability, and performance at enterprise scale.
Lead technical hiring, team development, and engineering culture initiatives.
Represent engineering in board-level discussions and strategic planning sessions.
Drive technical excellence and engineering best practices across the organisation.
What you will bring
University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
7+ years of experience in senior engineering leadership or Head of Engineering roles.
Proven track record leading large-scale platform engineering and technical teams.
Strong experience with marketing technology, FinTech, or similar complex platforms.
Excellent English communication and executive leadership skills for senior UK stakeholders.
Right to work in South Africa with a reliable high-speed internet connection.
Executive leadership experience and ability to manage complex, multi-regional technical organisations.

Compensation and progression
Base salary: R70,000 to R85,000 per month (full-time).
Currency options: Choose to be paid in ZAR, USD, GBP, or a combination.
Performance bonuses: Significant engineering leadership success bonuses based on platform performance and business impact (available after 6-month probation).

30-60-90 day expectations
Day 30 – Complete onboarding, understand platform and team landscape, develop technical leadership strategy.
Day 60 – Lead engineering teams successfully and demonstrate technical leadership impact.
Day 90 – Consistently drive platform excellence and lead strategic technical initiatives.
Probation and performance framework
6-month probation period with monthly performance reviews and clear success metrics.
Performance thresholds: Must achieve engineering leadership and platform
performance targets to progress beyond probation.

Equipment policy: Company equipment must be returned if employment ends during the probationary period.
